Time Travel

Q          Your prints convey a suspension in time, showing a unique blend of an era that was and an era to come. How does time play a role in your paintings? Is it a conscious or unconscious effort? Are the images drawn from flights of fancy, hidden fears or wishes?

A          The black & white prints on my website were made while I was living in London [1980-89] and I worked with photographs of my family and New York City to ease my home-sickness.
Fascinated by the fact that three generations of my family were immigrants, not living in their countries of origin, I placed my current self next to younger versions of family members, some of whom had died years before. I wanted to know what it would have been like to hang out with my own parents and grandparents when they were my age, so I invented a place where they could be together.
